Add page numbers to a PDF

Long documents are hard to use without page numbers. With this tool you can add page numbers to a PDF in a few clicks: choose one of six positions, the format (3, 3 / 12 or - 3 -) and the font size, and download the numbered file. It is the fastest way to add page numbers to scanned or merged documents.

You decide where the numbering starts. If your document has a cover page, set the first numbered page to 2, and if the document is part of a larger file, pick a different start number. When you add page numbers this way the total in the format 3 / 12 counts along, so the numbers always fit together.

Pages that are stored rotated are handled correctly: the number appears upright where you expect it. To add page numbers, your file is processed on servers in Germany, held in memory only and deleted after the download, at the latest after an hour. If you need to put several files in order first, merge them with our tool before you add page numbers.

Questions and answers

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Set “First page to number” to 2. The cover stays unnumbered and the next page gets the start number.

What does “3 / 12” show?

The page number and the last number, so “3 / 12” on the third of twelve pages. With a different start number the total counts along.

Does it work with rotated pages?

Yes. The number is placed as you see the page and reads upright.

How do I add page numbers at the bottom right of a PDF?

Choose the position “bottom right”, the format (for example 3 or 3/10) and the size. If you like, numbering starts only from a certain page or with a different start number.
