PDF to Word: edit the text of a PDF
A PDF is made for reading, not for editing. When you need to change a letter, a contract draft or a report, you can convert PDF to Word and continue in a normal text document. This tool reads the text and images of your PDF and writes a DOCX file that you open in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. It is the quick way to get PDF to Word without retyping.
The result is an approximation: plain text, headings and pictures usually come through well, while complex layouts, tables, columns and unusual fonts can look different and need some tidying in Word. The more simply the PDF is built, the better the PDF to Word result. Scanned documents contain only pictures; run our PDF OCR tool first so that the text can be recognised.
Up to three PDFs with at most 50 pages each can be converted per run. The conversion happens on our own servers in Germany with LibreOffice. Your PDF is held in memory only, never written to disk and deleted after the download, at the latest after an hour. If you only need the words, our PDF to text tool is more exact than converting PDF to Word.

Questions and answers
How good is the result?
Plain text, headings and images come through well. Complex page layouts, tables, columns and special fonts are rebuilt only approximately, so expect some corrections in Word.
My PDF is a scan.
A scan contains only pictures, so there is no text to edit. First run our PDF OCR tool to make the scan searchable, then convert it.
Is there a page limit?
Up to 50 pages per PDF and 3 files per run, because the conversion is demanding.
How can I edit a PDF containing a contract as a Word file?
With “PDF to Word” you get a DOCX file (up to 50 pages). The result is an approximation, layout and tables can differ. Read a contract through carefully again after the conversion.
