Compress PDF files without losing readability

Large attachments get rejected by mail servers and slow down every upload. With this tool you can compress PDF files in three levels: low, medium or high. The tool re-encodes the pictures inside the document and packs the structure more efficiently, which is usually where most of the size is hiding when you compress PDF documents.

Scans and presentations with photos shrink the most, because pictures are the biggest part of the file. Text and vector graphics stay sharp when you compress PDF files, since only the images are optimised. If a file cannot be made smaller, you get the original back, so the result is never larger than what you uploaded.

Choose a level, start the tool and compare the sizes shown afterwards. Medium is a good compromise for email; high is useful when the size limit is strict. Your document is processed on servers in Germany, held in memory only and deleted after the download, at the latest after an hour. You can compress PDF files without an account.

PDFs with photos or scans shrink a lot, often by more than half. Text-only PDFs are already small and change little.

Does the quality suffer?

Images are re-encoded at lower quality and, for the stronger levels, at a lower resolution. Text and vector graphics stay sharp. Use “Light” if you need the best quality.

What if the file cannot be made smaller?

Then you get your original file back unchanged, and nothing is lost.

Are my files stored?

No. Your PDF is processed in memory on our servers in Germany. Nothing is written to permanent storage, and everything is discarded as soon as you have your result.
