Text to PDF: from a plain file to a tidy document
Plain text files are easy to write but awkward to share: fonts differ, line breaks shift and printing is a gamble. Convert text to PDF and everyone sees the same page. This tool takes TXT, MD and LOG files and creates a clean PDF with margins, page breaks and a font of your choice. It is the simplest way to turn text to PDF without a word processor.
Choose a normal font for letters and notes or a fixed-width font for logs, code and tables, so that columns stay aligned. Tabs and repeated spaces are preserved, and the page format can be A4 or Letter. Files saved in UTF-8 or in the older Windows character set are both read correctly, so umlauts survive when you convert text to PDF.
Up to ten files can be converted per run, several results come as a ZIP archive. Files ending in .md are set as formatted Markdown; other text stays plain. Everything runs on our own servers in Germany with LibreOffice, is held in memory only and deleted after the download, at the latest after an hour. If you need to put several PDFs in one file afterwards, use our merge tool. It takes seconds to convert text to PDF.

Questions and answers
Is Markdown formatted?
Yes, for files ending in .md or .markdown: headings, bold and italic text, lists, quotes, code blocks and rules are set as formatting, and links appear as text with their address. Files ending in .txt or .log stay plain text, so characters such as # and * remain visible.
Do umlauts work?
Yes. UTF-8 and older Windows text files are recognised, so ä, ö, ü and ß are kept.
Are tabs and spaces kept?
Yes. Tabs and repeated spaces are preserved, which matters for logs and code. Choose the fixed-width font for aligned columns.
How do I convert a text file with umlauts to PDF?
Upload the TXT file; umlauts and special characters are shown correctly. You set the font, size and page size (A4 or Letter) yourself.
How do I convert a Markdown file to PDF?
Upload the .md file; headings, emphasis, lists, quotes and code blocks are set as formatting in the PDF.
