Unzip files online without extra software

ZIP archives are everywhere: attachments, downloads, backups, exports from other programs. Sometimes you are on a computer where you cannot install an archive program, or you simply want to look inside quickly. This page lets you unzip files in a few seconds. Upload the archive, and every file inside appears in a list with its own download button.

To unzip files you do not need a login. The archive is checked on the server before it is unpacked: it must not be password-protected, may contain at most 200 files and may be at most 40 MB once unpacked. These limits protect the service from archives that are tiny to send but huge when opened. Folder structures are flattened, names are cleaned up, and files with the same name are numbered, so nothing is overwritten when you unzip files.

Everything runs on our own servers in Germany, is held in memory only and deleted after the download, at the latest after an hour. Our ZIP tool does the opposite job and packs several files into one archive. If you often have to unzip files from the same source, the API lets you automate it. The archive is never opened on your device, so the work also runs on a phone or a locked-down office computer.

How it works

  1. Add the ZIP file

Drop one .zip archive onto the page.

  2. We unpack it

The archive is checked and unpacked on our server. Folders are flattened and unsafe names are cleaned.

  3. Download the files

Each file gets its own download button, so you only take what you need.

Questions and answers

Are password-protected archives supported?

No. Encrypted archives are rejected with a clear message. Remove the password first with the program that created it.

How large can the archive be?

Up to 50 MB for the archive, at most 200 files and 40 MB once unpacked. This protects against archives that explode in size.

What happens to folders?

Folders are flattened: every file is listed by its own name. If two files share a name, the second one gets a number.

How do I open a ZIP archive in the browser and download files one by one?

Upload the ZIP file; the contents are listed and every file can be saved on its own or with “Download all”. Limits: not encrypted, at most 200 files and 40 MB unpacked.
